Being an Interior Design Instructor

I recently began another semester instructing at AACC.  My fifth course at AACC. I love teaching, I love my profession,Norman Rockwell I love watching my students become interior designers.  I will be the first to admit, this is not an easy profession and certainly not an easy education either. You’ve got to love it, and love all of it.  There are many variables, a lot of skills are required and practical experience is essential.

This summer semester (8 weeks) I am instructing ACH 207: Portfolio and Visual Presentation for Interior Designers.  Interesting course and very valuable for future design professionals.  We will tackle presentation drawings including: color rendering, one and two point perspectives, axonometric & isometrics, elevations, etc…We will also discuss portfolios and create the beginnings of personal working portfolios. It has been a good refresher for me to remember the how and what of these drawings, I have become accustom to just doing them - and doing them quickly, after all time is money!,  but in haste I miss some of the techniques, logic and geometry that make these drawings amazing.

As part of the course I have posed the assignment to my students to start a blog.  This project serves as an opportunity to communicate their design concepts, articulate thoughts into written words, understand their personal concept statement and philosophy.  I am also blogging (given I started this blog over a year ago with great intentions and have shown little results) it will give me good reason to write with purpose.
